A live mirror of your controller

The visualizer lights up every button, stick and trigger as you press it, and shows a full MIDI instrument for your keyboard or pad controller. Click any control on screen and jump straight to its mapping.

TAP YOUR MAC

Your MacBook already has a motion sensor. InputConfig can feel you knock on the case, so you can trigger things with no hardware at all.

Nothing to plug in

No controller, no MIDI device, nothing connected. Tap the palm rest or the lid with a fingertip and the Mac's own accelerometer picks it up.

Double and triple

Two taps close together are a double, three are a triple, and a pause starts a new count. A single tap is left unbound so you never fire it by accident.

Typing is ignored

A keystroke shakes the case as hard as a tap does, so taps that land while you are typing are thrown away. Working at the keyboard never sets it off.

Ready-made preset

Double tap for Mission Control, triple tap to start dictation. It is built in under Feature Showcases, or download the Tap the Mac preset and open it with InputConfig.

Needs a MacBook whose chip publishes the motion sensor: M2 and later, or M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra. The base M1 models and desktop Macs do not have it.

InputConfig is built with the PlayStation Access Controller and other adaptive hardware in mind. If a keyboard is hard for you, a controller can be your Mac. One-stick driving steers, accelerates, brakes and shifts from a single stick, and because everything comes out as real keyboard and mouse events, it works in games and apps that never planned for it.

Gyro aim tilts the controller to move the mouse. Pause Motion While Held lets you re-aim without dragging the cursor, the way you lift a mouse. Deadzones and response curves are tuned per binding with a live plot, and Start Dictation, Speak Selection and Zoom are outputs like any other.

NOTHING LEAVES YOUR MAC

No analytics, no tracking, no accounts. Settings and presets are stored on your Mac and nothing is sent anywhere. The source is public, so none of this has to be taken on faith. Read the privacy policy.

Which controllers work with InputConfig on Mac?

DualSense and DualSense Edge, DualShock 4, Xbox, Switch Pro, Joy-Cons, Stadia, 8BitDo, the Steam Controller, and any MFi or HID gamepad. Your Mac's own keyboard, mouse and trackpad can be inputs too, and so can MIDI gear. No drivers are needed.

Is InputConfig really free?

Yes. It is free on the Mac App Store and open source on GitHub. No subscription, no account, no paid unlock. An optional tip jar exists for people who want to support the work.

Can I play games that do not support controllers?

Yes. InputConfig sends real keyboard and mouse events at the system level, so anything that works with a keyboard and mouse works with your controller, in every app, with nothing extra to install.

My hands don't work that well, which makes a keyboard and mouse difficult, so I depend on other devices to control my Mac. The mapping tools out there were expensive, missing things, or not built for the people using them. So I made the one I wanted.
