How to play Minecraft with a controller on a Mac
Minecraft Java Edition, the only Minecraft on the Mac, has no controller support. You add it one of two ways: a mod inside the game, or a mapper outside it that turns the controller into the keyboard and mouse Minecraft already understands. Both work with a PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch pad. Here is how to choose and how to set each up.

- Pair the controller with the Mac (Bluetooth or USB).
- Install InputConfig from the Mac App Store and grant it Accessibility when asked.
- Pick the Minecraft preset and press Activate.
- Open Minecraft. Left stick walks, right stick looks, the face buttons jump and attack.
Option 1: a mod
Controllable (for Forge) and MidnightControls (for Fabric) add real controller support with on-screen prompts and a controller-aware inventory. The cost is the mod loader: you install Forge or Fabric, put the mod in ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods, and launch through the loader's profile. It breaks on every Minecraft update until the mod catches up, and it does not work on servers that forbid mods or in the vanilla launcher. If you already run a modded game, this is the nicer feel.
Option 2: a mapper
InputConfig reads the controller and sends Minecraft the keys and mouse movement it expects: left stick to WASD, right stick to mouse look, a face button to jump, a trigger to attack, a bumper to the hotbar. Nothing touches the game, so it works in vanilla, on any server, on every version, and in the launcher menus too. It ships with a Minecraft preset already laid out; connect the pad, pick the preset, press Activate, open Minecraft.
Making the mapper feel right
Two settings matter. Set a deadzone on the right stick so the camera does not creep, and set the look speed to taste; both are on the stick's row in the editor. Put the inventory on a button you can reach without looking, because the inventory is the one screen where a mouse pointer is still handy: the left stick can drive the pointer while the inventory is open, which the preset does by default.
Bedrock Edition
Bedrock is not on the Mac, so the console-style controller support it has does not help here. Java plus a mod or a mapper is the whole story.

Can I use a PS5 controller for Minecraft on a Mac?

Will a mapper get me banned on a server?
No. A mapper sends ordinary keyboard and mouse input; the server sees nothing unusual. Servers that ban mods are one reason to prefer a mapper.
