Roblox camera and shift lock on a Mac
On a MacBook trackpad, Roblox's camera is the awkward part. It only turns while the right mouse button is held, and a trackpad has no right button to hold while you move. There are three ways round it that need nothing installed, plus shift lock, plus a controller if you would rather hold a pad. This is about the in-game camera, the view of your character, not the webcam.
Turn the camera without a mouse
Roblox's standard controls give you three ways, and none needs a right button:
- Left and Right arrow keys turn the camera. This is the easiest on a MacBook: WASD with the left hand, arrows with the right.
- I and O zoom in and out. Zoom all the way in and you are in first person, where the camera follows the trackpad with no click at all.
- Shift lock, below, makes the camera follow the trackpad in third person.
These are Roblox's defaults. An experience that builds its own camera can change them.
Right click on a MacBook
macOS calls it secondary click. Click with two fingers, or in System Settings, Trackpad, set Secondary click to the bottom right or bottom left corner. Holding a two-finger click while you also slide a finger is hard on a trackpad, which is why the arrow keys and shift lock are the better camera controls.
How to shift lock on a Mac
Open the Roblox menu with Escape or the Roblox icon at the top left, go to Settings, and switch Shift Lock Switch on. Back in the experience, press Shift. The pointer locks, your character faces where the camera faces, and moving a finger on the trackpad turns the view. Press Shift again to let go.

Shift lock not working on a Mac
Four causes, from Roblox's own rules for when shift lock is allowed:
- Shift Lock Switch is off. Pressing Shift does nothing until it is on in Settings.
- Movement Mode is Click to Move. Shift lock is unavailable in that mode. Set Movement Mode back to Default in Settings.
- The experience turned it off. Creators can disable shift lock. Nothing on the Mac brings it back there.
- Roblox thinks you are on a controller. Shift lock only works while Roblox believes you are playing with keyboard and mouse. If a controller is connected and in use, it can switch shift lock off. Put the pad down and touch the keyboard, or play that experience fully on the pad, where the right stick turns the camera anyway.
Roblox keys on a Mac
The standard keys are the same as on a PC. WASD or the Up and Down arrows move, Space jumps, Left and Right arrows turn the camera, I and O zoom, Shift is shift lock, the number keys pick tools from the hotbar, slash opens chat and Escape opens the menu. On a Mac keyboard there is nothing to change: Command is not used, and Shift is Shift.
