Questions
Can you use the PS5 controller's touchpad as a trackpad on a Mac?
Yes. macOS reads the touchpad but does nothing with it; InputConfig turns it into a trackpad: one finger moves the pointer, tap clicks, two fingers scroll, a press is a click. On a DualSense or a DualShock 4, over Bluetooth or USB. Pick the Touchpad Mouse preset and press Activate.
What it can do
Beyond a plain trackpad, the touchpad can be split into regions, each a button, so a tap on the left edge sends one key and the right edge another. Swipes in four directions are bindable. Sensitivity and acceleration are adjustable, and the touchpad can run alongside a stick pointer or instead of it. The touchpad page and the regions page cover the settings.
Why you might want it
A touchpad is more natural than a stick for pointing, and the DualSense's is large. For someone who cannot use a mouse it is often the most comfortable pointer on a controller. For everyone else, it turns the pad into a sofa remote with a proper cursor.
