Does an Azeron keypad work on a Mac?
The keypad does, and Azeron's software does not. Azeron says its software works only on Windows, with Mac and Linux not supported at this time. Its FAQ gives the way around that: on a Mac, configure the keypad with a third-party mapping app. The other way is to set the keypad up once on a Windows PC and save the profile to its onboard memory, which travels with it.
What Azeron says is from its downloads page, FAQ and home page, read on October 7, 2026. I make InputConfig, a free Mac app of the kind that FAQ describes: it reads the keypad's buttons and stick and sends keys and mouse. I have not tested an Azeron, so this page tells you how to check yours.
On this page: 10 sections
Steps
- Plug the Azeron into the Mac directly.
- Press a few keys in a text field to see what the stored profile types.
- Open InputConfig's Devices menu and tick the Azeron if it is listed.
- Press Scan on a row, press a key on the keypad, and choose what it sends.
Know what works without any software
An Azeron stores profiles in its own memory: six slots on the Cyborg II, Cyborg II Compact and Cyro, and two on the Cyborg, by Azeron's count. Whatever is in the active slot works on any computer, a Mac included, because the keypad itself is sending the keys. Azeron describes three ways the keypad can present itself: as a keyboard, as a joystick, or as a mix of the two. The profile lives in the keypad, so it comes with you to the Mac.
InputConfig is completely free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
Pick a route
| Route | Needs | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Onboard profiles | A Windows PC once, to write them | A fixed set of layouts you rarely change |
| A mapping app on the Mac | The keypad in joystick mode | Changing layouts on the Mac, per game or per app |
If you never touch Windows, the mapping app is the route.
Save profiles to the keypad from a PC
Azeron's software runs on Windows. Build each layout there, save it to an onboard slot, and switch slots on the keypad. On the Mac the keys arrive as ordinary keyboard keys and the thumbstick as whatever the profile set, WASD or an analog stick. Set up on a PC, the keypad needs nothing installed on the Mac. Changing a layout later means going back to the PC.
Map it on the Mac
Azeron's FAQ says the keypad can be configured on a Mac with third-party software, and names two mapping apps. Those apps read a joystick's buttons and sticks, so the keypad has to present its keys as joystick buttons. InputConfig works the same way and is free:
- You: Open InputConfig, add a row, press Scan, and press a key on the keypad.
- InputConfig: Records which button that key is.
- Check: Choose what it sends: a key, a shortcut, a click or a macro.
The thumbstick, read as an analog stick, becomes WASD, the pointer or scrolling, with its own deadzone and speed. In joystick mode, every Azeron key is a button with no meaning until you give it one. Scan to bind and deadzones and sensitivity have the details.
Know the catch with keyboard mode
If the stored profile sends keyboard keys, a Mac app sees a keyboard typing. InputConfig listens to the keyboard; it does not block or remap the key itself, so it can add a job to a key but cannot take away the letter it types. To remap on the Mac, the keypad's keys need to arrive as joystick buttons, not letters. Keys and mouse buttons as inputs explains what listening allows.
Check that the Mac sees it
- You: Plug the keypad in and open the gamepad tester in a browser. Press keys and move the thumbstick.
- macOS: Hands the browser a joystick if the keypad is presenting one.
- Check: Buttons light and the stick moves. If nothing shows, the active profile is sending keyboard keys.
The tester tells you which of the keypad's two faces the Mac is seeing. The keyboard tester shows the keyboard side.
Use it for more than games
A keypad with a thumbstick suits one-handed work as well as games: layers of shortcuts for an editor, the stick as a pointer or a scroll wheel, a key that holds a modifier. InputConfig switches layouts by the app in front, so the same keys do different jobs in each. One hand on the keypad can run an app that expects two on a keyboard. Using a Mac with one hand and per-app switching go further.
The short version
- Azeron's software. Windows only, by Azeron's own page.
- Without it. Onboard profiles work on a Mac.
- On the Mac. A mapping app reads the keypad in joystick mode.
The keypad works on a Mac, and the mapping happens in the keypad or in a Mac app.
Questions
Does Azeron software work on a Mac?
No. Azeron's downloads page says the software works only on Windows, and that Mac and Linux are not supported at this time.
Can I use an Azeron keypad on a Mac?
Yes. Profiles saved to the keypad's onboard memory work on any computer, and Azeron's FAQ says the keypad can be configured on a Mac with third-party mapping software.
Which mapping app works with an Azeron on a Mac?
Azeron's FAQ names Joystick Mapper and Gamepad Mapper. InputConfig is a free app of the same kind. I have not tested an Azeron with it.
Does the Azeron thumbstick work on a Mac?
Presented as a joystick, the stick is an analog axis a mapper can turn into WASD, the pointer or scrolling. In a keyboard profile it sends whatever keys the profile set.
Does the Azeron Cyro work on a Mac?
Azeron lists the same Windows-only software for the Cyro. Its onboard slots, six by Azeron's count, work without the software.
