Monster Hunter: World on a Mac with a controller

Download InputConfig on the Mac App StoreThe Monster Hunter: World layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

On a Mac: No Mac version, and it is not in GeForce NOW's public list or Xbox Cloud Gaming's US library (checked September 2026). It streams to a Mac from a Windows PC you own, which normally passes the controller to the game's own scheme.

Yes, you can play Monster Hunter: World on a Mac with a controller, by streaming it from your own Windows PC. It is a pad game with a famously odd keyboard scheme, and the stream usually spares you that by passing the controller through. This layout is for when it does not: the two attacks on the triggers, the weapon action on a face button, and the slinger on a bumper, which after an hour with a long sword stops feeling odd.

The layout, control by control

Click a control. Labels:

How the layout thinks

  • Move and look. The left stick moves and the right stick turns the camera. The left stick click is dash and sheathe (Left Shift), the right stick click focuses the camera (Q).
  • Fight. Normal attack is the right trigger, the special attack the left. The weapon action (Left Ctrl) is the right face button and dodge (Space) the bottom one.
  • Slinger and sheathe. Slinger aim (middle click) is the left bumper and sheathe (B) the right bumper.
  • Items. Use item (E) is the left face button, and interact and carve (F) the top one. D-pad left and right scroll the item bar, and up and down the ammo or special bar, with the arrow keys.
  • Menus. The radial menu (F1) is on Create and Escape on Options.

Both attacks are triggers, which is where an hour of hunting will want them.

Tune it

  • Radial menus. F1 to F4 open them while held, and the mouse picks. Hold Create and aim with the right stick, which is already the mouse.
  • Clutch claw. It is slinger aim, then attack. Both are already in the layout.
  • Dual blades. Set the attack row to Repeats while held for a demon dance, if you must.

Hold Create and point with the right stick, and the radial menu works like the console one.

If the stream passes your controller

When the stream gives the game your pad, use Capcom's controller scheme and keep this preset off, because with both running every press lands twice. Test the pad in the stream first, and save this layout for the night the stream will not see it.

Monster Hunter: World controller support: controller or keyboard

Steam's store page lists partial controller support for Monster Hunter: World: it plays on a controller, but some parts, such as a launcher, text entry or a menu, still expect a keyboard or a mouse. This layout sends keys and mouse movement from the pad, which can cover the parts the game's own support leaves out. With partial support, a layout fills the gaps the game leaves.

From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.

If your controller is not working in Monster Hunter: World

When Monster Hunter: World does not react to your controller on a Mac, climb this ladder, smallest step first:

  1. Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
  2. Press a button after the stream has started. A stream only picks up a controller that is paired with the Mac, and a browser shows a controller to a page only after a button press. Start Monster Hunter: World, then press any button. Streaming from your own PC has its own checks, in how to stream PC games to a Mac with a controller.
  3. Play it from keys. If Monster Hunter: World still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Monster Hunter: World already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Monster Hunter: World ever sees the controller.

Get it in two clicks

  1. Get InputConfig free on the Mac App Store, open it, and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
  2. Search for Monster Hunter: World and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
  3. Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

To check the controller itself first, the gamepad tester shows every button and stick live in your browser.

Monster Hunter: World controls: every button and the key it sends

The Sends column is Monster Hunter: World's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

Questions

Does Monster Hunter: World run on a Mac?

Monster Hunter: World does not run natively on a Mac, and it is not on GeForce NOW's public list. Stream it from a Windows PC you own. The stream normally passes a controller, and this layout covers a stream that does not see the pad.

Does Monster Hunter: World have controller support?

Partly. Steam lists partial controller support for Monster Hunter: World: it plays on a controller, but some screens still expect a keyboard or mouse.

Is Monster Hunter: World better with a controller or a keyboard?

A controller works for most of it. Steam lists partial controller support for Monster Hunter: World, so some screens still expect a keyboard or a mouse, and a layout like this one can put those on the pad.

Why is my controller not working in Monster Hunter: World on a Mac?

First check the Mac itself sees the controller, with the gamepad tester. If it does and Monster Hunter: World still ignores it, activate the Monster Hunter: World layout in InputConfig, which sends the game's keyboard and mouse controls from the controller.

Can I play Monster Hunter: World on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?

Yes, through a stream. Monster Hunter: World runs on the other end, on a cloud service or your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
