Webcam test
InputConfig is completely free on the Mac App Store.
Press the button, allow the camera, and you'll see yourself. Under the picture is what the camera is really sending: its resolution and frame rate.
The picture never leaves this page.
If there is no picture
Climb this ladder, smallest step first:
- Allow the camera. The browser asks once. If you blocked it, click the icon in the address bar and allow it for this page.
- Quit other camera apps. A video call app that is open can hold the camera.
- Pick the right camera. The list shows every camera the browser can see.
- Check the Mac's own setting. In System Settings, Privacy & Security, Camera, make sure your browser is allowed.
If the picture shows here, the camera works, and the problem is in the app you were trying to use.
How this fits with InputConfig
InputConfig does not test sound, cameras or screens, so these pages fill that gap. Where the app meets them: any button can start dictation or read text aloud with the Speak option, and screen regions turn parts of the display into targets for the pointer.

Start dictation from any button on a Mac shows it step by step. InputConfig is free on the Mac App Store.

Questions
How do I test my webcam?
Press Start the webcam test and allow the camera when the browser asks. The picture appears, with the resolution and frame rate the camera is really sending.
Why is my camera not working in the test?
The browser needs permission to use the camera, and another app may be holding it. On a Mac, check System Settings, Privacy & Security, Camera, and quit any video call app that is using the camera.
Is the video sent anywhere?
No. The picture stays in this page on your device, and a photo you take is saved only to your own downloads.
How do I test an external webcam or an iPhone as a webcam?
Connect it, press Start, and pick it from the camera list. The numbers under the picture change to that camera's resolution.
