Lethal Company on a Mac with a controller
The Lethal Company layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: No Mac version. It is a light Unity game that people run through CrossOver or the Game Porting Toolkit. Steam lists only partial controller support, and this layout does not depend on it.
Yes, you can play Lethal Company with a controller on a Mac, through a wrapper and this layout. The game was built for keyboard and mouse, so this layout is the main way to play it from a pad, not a fallback. Once the game runs, InputConfig turns a DualSense into the keyboard it wants, and you can scavenge the facility from a sofa with three friends who cannot see the Bracken either.

The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Move and look. The left stick walks, the right stick looks, and the left stick click is sprint.
- Use and scan. The right trigger uses the held item and the left trigger pings the scanner. The item special (Q, the flashlight switch) is the right bumper.
- Grab and drop. Grab (E) is the left face button and drop (G) the top. Jump is the bottom face button and crouch the right.
- Inventory. The left bumper is slot 1 and Create slot 2. D-pad up and down are slots 3 and 4, and left and right scroll through the rest.
- Menu. Escape is on Options.
All four inventory slots are one press away, so you never scroll past the item you need while something is chasing you.
Tune it for the crew
- Voice. Proximity chat is open mic by default, and the walkie is a held item. Nothing to bind.
- The terminal. The ship terminal is typing, the one place a keyboard on the desk helps. Type Text outputs on chords cover the four commands you type most: moons, store, the moon you always go to, and confirm.
- Look. Keep the look rows at 20 and 14 with a small deadzone. You will be looking behind you a lot.
Four Type Text chords keep the terminal from sending you back to the keyboard.
If the game also reads the pad
Steam's partial controller support means the game can react to the pad itself if the wrapper passes it. If a button acts twice, deactivate the preset and try the game's own reading of the pad, or delete the row that doubles. One source of input per button, or every press lands twice.
Lethal Company controller support: controller or keyboard
Steam's store page lists partial controller support for Lethal Company: it plays on a controller, but some parts, such as a launcher, text entry or a menu, still expect a keyboard or a mouse. This layout sends keys and mouse movement from the pad, which can cover the parts the game's own support leaves out. With partial support, a layout fills the gaps the game leaves.
From Steam's listing, checked in October 2026. Every game's listing is in Mac games with controller support.
If your controller is not working in Lethal Company
When Lethal Company does not react to your controller on a Mac, climb this ladder, smallest step first:
- Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
- Expect less inside a wrapper. In CrossOver or the Game Porting Toolkit, Wine passes a controller to Lethal Company only some of the time, and the keyboard and mouse get through every time. Using a controller with CrossOver games has the checks.
- Play it from keys. If Lethal Company still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Lethal Company already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Lethal Company ever sees the controller.
Get it in two clicks
- Get InputConfig free on the Mac App Store, open it, and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Lethal Company and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
To check the controller itself first, the gamepad tester shows every button and stick live in your browser.
Lethal Company controls: every button and the key it sends
The Sends column is Lethal Company's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

| Right stick down | Mouse motion down (speed 14) | Look down |

| A / Cross | Space | Jump (Space) |
| B / Circle | Ctrl (Left) | Crouch (Left Ctrl) |
| L3 (left stick click) | Shift (Left) | Sprint (hold Left Shift, also left-stick click) |

| D-pad up | 3 | Quick-select inventory slot 3 (3) |
| D-pad down | 4 | Quick-select inventory slot 4 (4) |

Button names follow the Xbox / PlayStation pair shown in the editor, so A / Cross is the bottom face button on either pad. On a Switch Pro Controller the bottom button is labeled B; the mapping still fires on position.
Questions
Does Lethal Company support controllers?
Steam lists only partial controller support. This layout covers the rest: it sends the keyboard and mouse the game was built for.
Does Lethal Company run on a Mac?
Lethal Company does not run natively on a Mac. People run it through CrossOver or the Game Porting Toolkit.
Does Lethal Company have controller support?
Partly. Steam lists partial controller support for Lethal Company: it plays on a controller, but some screens still expect a keyboard or mouse.
Is Lethal Company better with a controller or a keyboard?
A controller works for most of it. Steam lists partial controller support for Lethal Company, so some screens still expect a keyboard or a mouse, and a layout like this one can put those on the pad.
Why is my controller not working in Lethal Company on a Mac?
First check the Mac itself sees the controller, with the gamepad tester. If it does and Lethal Company still ignores it, activate the Lethal Company layout in InputConfig, which sends the game's keyboard and mouse controls from the controller.
Can I play Lethal Company on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?
Lethal Company has no Mac version, so it runs through a wrapper such as CrossOver or the Game Porting Toolkit, and how well depends on the Mac's chip and memory. I have not tested it on each Mac.
