One-stick driving

One-stick driving makes a single analog stick drive a whole vehicle, the way a power wheelchair joystick does. Left and right steer; forward accelerates and back brakes; snapping the stick back twice shifts into reverse. Because the app sends keyboard and mouse, it works in any racing or driving game that can be played from a keyboard, which is most of them.

How it works

Variable throttle from a key is done by pulsing: pushing the stick further holds the accelerate key a larger share of each cycle, which most games read as proportional speed. Steering is smooth mouse movement by default, or the A and D keys if the game steers from the keyboard. The whole thing lives in the One-Stick Driving panel below the controller slots in the editor.

Turning it on

Open a preset and scroll to One-Stick Driving under Accessibility Tools Suite. Switch it on. The quickest start is the One-Stick Racing preset in the Smart Preset Maker.
Pick which stick drives: Left, Right, or Custom axes. Custom is for an adaptive joystick that reports on unusual axes.
Move the stick and watch the live readout to confirm the right axes respond.
Set the accelerate and brake keys to match the game (W and S by default).
Choose mouse or the A and D keys for steering.

Reverse

Snap the stick fully back to the wall twice, quickly, to shift into Reverse. In Reverse, pushing forward drives backward; push fully forward to return to Drive. The tap count, the timing window, and how far back counts as the wall are all adjustable in the panel, so a hand that moves slowly can use a longer window and one that overshoots can use fewer taps.

Tips

If the vehicle launches the moment driving is enabled, the throttle axis is an analog trigger that rests at one end. Turn on the trigger option in the Throttle section.
Raise the sensitivity curve for finer low-speed control.
It works in any game you can drive with the keyboard and mouse. Games that only accept a gamepad are not supported, because the app does not emulate a controller.
A second control can still do things: put the horn, the handbrake, and the camera on the switches or the other stick.

Questions

Does it work with the PlayStation Access Controller's stick?

Can the stick also move the pointer when I am not driving?

Only one preset runs at a time, so keep a desktop preset with the stick on the pointer and switch to the driving preset for the game, by shortcut or per-app auto-switch.
