Cursor regions and stick regions

Two input types have no button at all. A cursor region is an area of the screen that acts as an input when the pointer enters it, like a hot corner you can put anywhere and bind to anything. A stick region is a zone on a stick's travel with its own binding, so pushing the stick into its upper-right corner can be one command and its right edge another, without combining separate axis rows.

Cursor regions

  1. Add a row and set the input type to Cursor Region.
  2. Define the region: a rectangle on the screen, drawn or entered in points.
  3. Pick the output. The row fires when the pointer enters the region, with all the usual options.

Uses: a strip along the bottom edge that shows the Dock only for someone who cannot hold the mouse still; a corner that locks the screen; a region over a game's chat box that toggles a keyboard-heavy preset. Cursor-region presets run with no controller connected.

Stick regions

  1. Add a row and set the input type to Stick Region.
  2. Choose the stick and draw the zone: a rectangle on the stick's X and Y plane, such as the upper-right corner or the whole top edge. Leave the middle clear so the centre stays neutral.
  3. Pick the output.

Four corners and four edges on the left stick make an eight-way menu: flick the stick to a zone to fire a command, with a haptic pulse on each so you can feel it land. It is a lot of commands from one hand, and a good fit for someone who can move a stick but has few buttons. Diagonals in games are the other common use: one row for upper-right instead of two half-axis rows.

Regions and normal axis rows together

A stick can carry both. Axis rows move the pointer while stick regions at the far corners fire commands, as long as the zones sit past where the pointer rows usually run. Most people give a stick one job or the other; the Options on each row make the exceptions possible.

Questions

Does a cursor region fire repeatedly while the pointer sits in it?

It behaves like a button that is pressed when the pointer enters and released when it leaves, so a normal output fires once per visit. Add turbo for repetition while the pointer stays inside.

Can a cursor region be on a second display?

Yes. Coordinates span every connected display.
