Diablo II: Resurrected on a Mac with a controller
The Diablo II: Resurrected layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: No Mac version. It streams to a Mac from a Windows PC you own. The stream normally passes a controller to the game's native scheme. This layout is for streams that do not see the pad. It starts from a generic ARPG template, and D2R's skill hotkeys are its own keys, so give those rows new outputs.
Yes, Diablo II: Resurrected plays on a Mac with a controller, streamed from a Windows PC you own. D2R has a real controller mode from the console versions, so use that when the stream passes your pad. This layout is the fallback and the old way: a cursor on the stick, click to move and attack on the right trigger, the potion belt on the D-pad.

The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Cursor. The left stick moves the cursor at speed 16.
- Click. The right trigger moves and uses the core skill (left click), the left trigger the secondary skill (right click).
- Face buttons. They come from the Diablo IV layout and send Space, Q, E and R, which Diablo II uses differently: Space closes open panels, Q opens the quest log, R toggles run and walk, and there is no dodge.
- Potion belt. The D-pad sends 1 to 4, which is already the potion belt.
- Panels. Inventory on the left bumper (I), character on the right (C), the map on Back (Tab), menu on Start (Escape).
The belt works as it stands, and the face buttons are waiting for your skill hotkeys.
Tune it
- Skill hotkeys. Set the four face buttons' outputs to F1 to F4.
- More hotkeys. Add F5 to F8 as chord rows, held with a spare button such as a paddle. A held button keeps its own job, so a bumper would open a panel too.
- A slow pointer for the inventory Tetris. Duplicate the four left-stick rows, set While also holding to a spare button on the copies, and give them half the speed.
F1 to F4 on the face buttons turns this into a Diablo II layout.
If the game sees the pad
D2R's own controller mode is faster than any cursor, so use it when the stream passes your pad, with this preset off. With both running, every press does two things.
It is slower than the native mode, but it is still Diablo II.
If your controller is not working in Diablo II: Resurrected
When Diablo II: Resurrected does not react to your controller on a Mac, climb this ladder, smallest step first:
- Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
- Press a button after the stream has started. A stream only picks up a controller that is paired with the Mac, and a browser shows a controller to a page only after a button press. Start Diablo II: Resurrected, then press any button. Streaming from your own PC has its own checks, in how to stream PC games to a Mac with a controller.
- Play it from keys. If Diablo II: Resurrected still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Diablo II: Resurrected already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Diablo II: Resurrected ever sees the controller.
Get it in two clicks
- Get InputConfig free on the Mac App Store, open it, and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Diablo II: Resurrected and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
To check the controller itself first, the gamepad tester shows every button and stick live in your browser.
Diablo II: Resurrected controls: every button and the key it sends
The Sends column is Diablo II: Resurrected's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

| Controller | Sends | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Left stick left | Mouse motion left (speed 16) | Cursor left |
| Left stick right | Mouse motion right (speed 16) | Cursor right |
| Left stick up | Mouse motion up (speed 16) | Cursor up |
| Left stick down | Mouse motion down (speed 16) | Cursor down |
| Right trigger | Left click | Move / core skill (left click) |
| Left trigger | Right click | Secondary skill (right click) |
| A / Cross | Space | Evade |
| B / Circle | Q | Potion (Q) |
| X / Square | E | Skill 3 (E) |
| Y / Triangle | R | Skill 4 (R) |
| D-pad up | 1 | Skill slot 1 |
| D-pad left | 2 | Skill slot 2 |
| D-pad right | 3 | Skill slot 3 |
| D-pad down | 4 | Skill slot 4 |
| LB / L1 | I | Inventory (I) |
| RB / R1 | C | Character (C) |
| Back / Share / Select | Tab | Map (Tab) |
| Start / Options | Escape | Menu (Esc) |
Button names follow the Xbox / PlayStation pair shown in the editor, so A / Cross is the bottom face button on either pad. On a Switch Pro Controller the bottom button is labeled B; the mapping still fires on position.
Questions
Does Diablo II: Resurrected run on a Mac?
Diablo II: Resurrected does not run natively on a Mac. It streams from a Windows PC you own, and the stream usually passes a controller through. This layout covers a stream that does not see the pad.
Why is my controller not working in Diablo II: Resurrected on a Mac?
First check the Mac itself sees the controller, with the gamepad tester. If it does and Diablo II: Resurrected still ignores it, activate the Diablo II: Resurrected layout in InputConfig, which sends the game's keyboard and mouse controls from the controller.
Can I play Diablo II: Resurrected on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?
Yes, through a stream. Diablo II: Resurrected runs on the other end, on a cloud service or your own PC, so the Mac only plays the video and sends your input. An M1 MacBook Air streams it like any other Mac.
