Luminar Neo from a game controller
The Luminar Neo layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.

The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Step through photos. Left stick left and right, and the bottom and right face buttons, send the arrow keys.
- Rate. Five stars on D-pad up, one star on D-pad down.
- Flag and switch views. D-pad left and right send P and X, the pick and reject flags in Lightroom. The left and top face buttons send D and G, Lightroom's Develop and grid.
- Undo and scroll. Undo on the left bumper. The right stick scrolls.
Check the four rows from Lightroom
- You: Open Luminar Neo's Help menu and find its keyboard shortcuts. Compare them with D-pad left and right and the left and top face buttons.
- InputConfig: Sends Lightroom's P, X, D and G until you change a row.
- Check: Press each of the four with a photo selected. Where nothing happens, set the row to Luminar's key.
Arrows and stars work from the start, so you can cull today and fix the four rows later.
Tune it for a faster pass
- Middle ratings. Put two to four stars behind a chord on the D-pad.
- Feel the reject. Tick Vibrate under Feedback in the reject row's Options.
- Small controllers. A D-pad and four buttons are enough. An 8BitDo Micro or a single Joy-Con beside a laptop does the whole cull.
A cull from the couch is often a better cull, because you look at the photo and not at the keyboard.
Get it in two clicks
- Get InputConfig free on the Mac App Store, open it, and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Luminar Neo and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

Button names follow the Xbox / PlayStation pair shown in the editor, so A / Cross is the bottom face button on either pad. On a Switch Pro Controller the bottom button is labeled B; the mapping still fires on position.
