The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Move. The left stick walks on W, A, S and D.
- Camera. The right stick turns the camera with keys: J and L for left and right, I and K for up and down. Zoom out on the left stick click (X), in on the right (Z).
- Face buttons. Confirm on the bottom (E), cancel on the right (C), analyze on the left (Ctrl), reset camera on the top (R).
- Shoulders. Run on the right bumper (Shift), page left on the left (Q).
- Menus. The D-pad moves through menus with the arrow keys. Menu on Start (Tab), map on Back (M).
Keep a finger ready on confirm for the timing inside each enemy turn.
Tune it
- Dodge, not parry. On a stream, the dodge's wider window wins.
- Parry and dodge keys. Check them against the game's controls, and give them the buttons your thumb rests on.
The rest of the game, and it is a beautiful game, does not care about latency at all. Dodge rather than parry on a stream, because the window is wider.
If the game sees the pad
Steam lists full controller support, and Xbox Cloud Gaming in the browser takes a controller directly. Use that with this preset off, and this layout over a stream that does not see the pad. With both running, every press does two things.
Clair Obscur's parries live on timing, so let the stream pass the pad through and keep this preset off.
If your controller is not working in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
When Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 does not react to your controller on a Mac, climb this ladder, smallest step first:
- Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
- Press a button after the stream has started. A stream only picks up a controller that is paired with the Mac, and a browser shows a controller to a page only after a button press. Button names follow the Xbox / PlayStation pair shown in the editor, so A / Cross is the bottom face button on either pad. On a Switch Pro Controller the bottom button is labeled B; the mapping still fires on position.
