Brotato: controller layout for Mac
Brotato does not need a controller-aware version of itself to be played from a controller on a Mac. InputConfig sends real keyboard and mouse events, so the game sees a keyboard and a mouse, and you hold the controller. This is the layout the app's Smart Preset Maker builds for it: Top-down arena roguelite.
Get the preset in two clicks
- Open InputConfig and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Brotato and pick it. The layout below is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
The full button map

| Left stick right | D | Move right (D) |
| Left stick up | W | Move up (W) |
| Left stick down | S | Move down (S) |
| D-pad left | A | Move left (A) |
| D-pad right | D | Move right (D) |
| D-pad up | W | Move up (W) |
| D-pad down | S | Move down (S) |
| Right stick left | Mouse motion left (speed 20) | Aim left (Manual Aim option) |
| Right stick right | Mouse motion right (speed 20) | Aim right (Manual Aim option) |
| Right stick up | Mouse motion up (speed 14) | Aim up (Manual Aim option) |

| Right trigger | Left click | Fire while manually aiming (hold left click) |
| A / Cross | Return | Confirm / buy (Enter) |
| B / Circle | Escape | Pause / back (Esc) |
Button names follow the Xbox / PlayStation pair shown in the editor, so A / Cross is the bottom face button on either pad. On a Switch Pro Controller the bottom button is labelled B; the mapping still fires on position.
Tips
- Brotato auto-aims and auto-fires by default, so movement on the left stick is all you truly need to survive.
- If you enable Manual Aim in the options it becomes a twin-stick shooter: the right stick steers the cursor and the right trigger fires.
- It is a 2D arena game, so the cursor stays visible for clicking through the shop and level-up screens.
- Press A to confirm purchases between waves and B to back out or pause.
Make it yours
Nothing here is fixed. Rows can be re-scanned to a different control, given hold and double-tap actions, chords, turbo, macros, haptic or spoken feedback, and per-binding deadzones and sensitivity curves. The binding editor guide covers every option, and the controller map shows what each control is called.
