The menu bar
The menu bar icon is the app without the window. It starts and stops the current preset, switches between presets, shows how many controllers are connected and what the engine is doing, and carries the Emergency Stop. In menu-bar-only mode it is the whole interface most of the time.
What is in it
- Start / Stop
- Runs or halts the selected preset.
- Preset picker
- Every preset, in sidebar order. Picking one switches to it.
- Controllers
- How many are connected, with a list.
- New Preset, Smart Preset, Statistics
- Open the window at the right place.
- Emergency Stop
- Halts the engine and releases every held key, button, and note. The shortcut is shown next to it.
- Status
- Engine idle or running, with the app's CPU and memory use.
- Bottom row
- Quit, the tip jar, the Smart Preset Maker, show the main window, and Settings.
Menu-bar-only mode
Settings, Advanced can hide the Dock icon. The app then lives in the menu bar and the window opens on demand. With launch at login on and per-app auto-switch set up, it becomes something you set once and stop thinking about.
Questions
Why does the status show CPU use?
So you can see what the engine costs at the current polling rate. Idle should be near zero; a running preset at 240 Hz uses a few percent.
Can I switch presets from the controller instead?
Yes. App Action outputs include Next Preset, Previous Preset, and Activate a specific preset, so a button can cycle layouts.
