Todoist from a game controller
The Todoist layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: Todoist reads keys from this layout like a keyboard. The rows come from the Apple Notes layout; Todoist's own keys are single letters such as Q to add a task.
Yes, you can add and finish tasks in Todoist on a Mac from a game controller, after two quick changes. The entry borrows the Notes layout, and Todoist's own keys are single letters: Q for quick add, E to complete. With dictation on a bumper, adding a task from a chair is three presses.
The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Notes leftovers. Command N, bold, a checklist and copy on the four face buttons.
- Point and scroll. The left stick is the pointer, the right stick scrolls, the right trigger clicks, Escape is on Start.
Change two rows
Step 1: Quick add
- You: Change the bottom face button's output to Q.
- InputConfig: Sends Todoist's quick add key.
- Check: Press it in Todoist and the quick add box opens.
Step 2: Complete
- You: Change the right face button's output to E.
- InputConfig: Sends Todoist's complete key.
- Check: Select a task and press it. The task ticks off.
The left and top face buttons can keep checklist and copy, or become views from Todoist's shortcut list. Q and E are the two presses you will make all day.
Tune it
- Dictation. Add a Start Dictation row on a bumper. Open quick add, speak, and press Return.
- Global quick add. Put Todoist's global shortcut, set in its settings, on the touchpad press.
- Today and Upcoming. Put their keys on D-pad left and right.
A task said out loud from the couch is a task that does not get forgotten.
Get it in two clicks
- Get InputConfig free on the Mac App Store, open it, and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Todoist and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
Every binding, as a table

| Left stick up | Mouse motion up (speed 16) | Cursor up |
| Left stick down | Mouse motion down (speed 16) | Cursor down |

Button names follow the Xbox / PlayStation pair shown in the editor, so A / Cross is the bottom face button on either pad. On a Switch Pro Controller the bottom button is labeled B; the mapping still fires on position.
