Ocenaudio from a game controller
The Ocenaudio layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: Ocenaudio reads its default shortcuts from this layout, including Command 1 and Command 3 for zoom and Command F to fit the file.
Yes, you can trim audio in Ocenaudio on a Mac from a game controller: play, record, pause and cut on the face buttons, zoom on the triggers, the selection edge on the D-pad. The rows send Ocenaudio's default shortcuts, so nothing needs changing. Trimming a voice memo without a keyboard is the point.
The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Transport. Play and stop (Space) on the bottom face button, record (R) on the right, pause (P) on the top.
- Cut and paste. Cut on the left face button, copy on Back, Share or View, paste on Start.
- Undo and redo. On the left and right bumpers.
- Select. D-pad left and right move the cursor or the selection edge, up and down change tracks, and the left stick nudges the cursor.
- Zoom. The triggers zoom (Command 1 in, Command 3 out), the left stick click fits the file (Command F), the right stick scrolls tracks.
Tune it
- Select all. Put Command A on the right stick click, which this layout leaves free.
- Feel the cut. Tick Vibrate under Feedback in the cut row's Options.
- Quiet edits. A controller button is quieter than a keyboard next to a microphone.
Zoom in with a trigger, set the edge with the D-pad, cut with one press.
Get it in two clicks
- Get InputConfig free on the Mac App Store, open it, and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Ocenaudio and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.

Questions
Does this match the Audacity layout?
It is the same idea as the Audacity layout. Ocenaudio's keys differ in places, and these rows already use Ocenaudio's.
