Blue Prince on a Mac with a controller
The Blue Prince layout is built into InputConfig, free on the Mac App Store. You don't have to make an account, there are no subscriptions, and nothing is locked. Optimized for Apple silicon.
On a Mac: Native on the Mac: on Steam since September 2025, and on the Mac App Store. The game has full controller support of its own. Use it when it sees your pad. This layout is for pads it does not detect, and only a few of its rows matter in Blue Prince: walk, look, interact and the map.
Yes, Blue Prince runs natively on the Mac, on Steam and the Mac App Store, with full controller support of its own, so if your pad shows up in the game, play that way. Nothing in it is timed, so controller or keyboard is a matter of comfort, not skill. This layout is for the pad the game does not see, and only a handful of its rows matter here.

The layout, control by control
How the layout thinks
- Walk and look. The left stick walks on W, A, S and D. The right stick looks with the mouse at speed 16.
- Use and select. The right trigger sends a right click, labeled use. The right bumper sends a left click, labeled select. Interact on the left face button (E).
- The map. The map on Back (Tab), pause on Start (Escape).
- Generic rows. Sprint on the left trigger, jump, crouch, a flashlight, a tool and a few more keys come from a general first-person layout. Check them against Blue Prince's controls, and ignore any that do nothing.
Walk, look, interact and the map are all Blue Prince asks of a pad.
Tune it
- Keep it small. Change the few rows you need, or start from a blank preset with the sticks and one button. It is that small.
- Slow look. Set Curve to Smooth on the four right-stick rows for reading the room.
- Notes. You will take notes. Give a spare button the Start Dictation output and dictate into a notes app.
A small layout suits a game you play by thinking.
If the game sees the pad
The Mac version has the same full controller support as the PC version, and the game can remap the pad. Use that with this preset off. With both running, every press does two things.
Use the game's own controls first, and keep this layout as the backup.
If your controller is not working in Blue Prince
When Blue Prince does not react to your controller on a Mac, climb this ladder, smallest step first:
- Check that the Mac sees the controller. Open the gamepad tester and press a button. If nothing lights up there, the problem is the connection, and a controller that is connected but not working covers that first.
- Check the Steam Input setting for Blue Prince. In Steam, open Blue Prince, Properties, Controller, and change the Steam Input override. A controller that works in Steam but not in the game goes through each choice.
- Play it from keys. If Blue Prince still ignores the pad, activate this layout. It sends the keyboard and mouse controls Blue Prince already reads. Turn the game's own controller option off while it runs, or a press can arrive twice. The layout works whether or not Blue Prince ever sees the controller.
Get it in two clicks
- Get InputConfig free on the Mac App Store, open it, and click Smart Preset Maker on the welcome screen.
- Search for Blue Prince and pick it. The layout is created as a preset in your sidebar, named and ready.
- Press Activate. Every row can be changed afterwards: the editor's Scan button rebinds any control the moment you touch it.
To check the controller itself first, the gamepad tester shows every button and stick live in your browser.
Blue Prince controls: every button and the key it sends
The Sends column is Blue Prince's default keyboard and mouse controls, as this layout expects them. If you changed a key in the game's settings, change the same row in InputConfig.

| Controller | Sends | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Left stick left | A | Strafe left (A) |
| Left stick right | D | Strafe right (D) |
| Left stick up | W | Move forward (W) |
| Left stick down | S | Move back (S) |
| Right stick left | Mouse motion left (speed 16) | Look left |
| Right stick right | Mouse motion right (speed 16) | Look right |
| Right stick up | Mouse motion up (speed 16) | Look up |
| Right stick down | Mouse motion down (speed 16) | Look down |
| Right trigger | Right click | Use (contextual) |
| Left trigger | Shift (Left) | Sprint (LShift) |
| A / Cross | Space | Jump (Space) |
| B / Circle | Ctrl (Left) | Crouch (LCtrl) |
| X / Square | E | Interact (E) |
| Y / Triangle | F | Flashlight (F) |
| LB / L1 | Y | Tool (Y) |
| RB / R1 | Left click | Select (Left Mouse) |
| L3 (left stick click) | Alt / Option (Left) | Free look (LAlt) |
| R3 (right stick click) | X | Action (X) |
| D-pad up | C | Camera (C) |
| D-pad down | R | Action (R) |
| D-pad left | Z | Log (Z) |
| Start / Options | Escape | Pause (Esc) |
| Back / Share / Select | Tab | View map (Tab) |
Button names follow the Xbox / PlayStation pair shown in the editor, so A / Cross is the bottom face button on either pad. On a Switch Pro Controller the bottom button is labeled B; the mapping still fires on position.
Questions
Does Blue Prince run on a Mac?
Yes, natively, on Steam and the Mac App Store, with full controller support of its own. This layout is for a pad the game does not detect.
Does Blue Prince have controller support on Mac?
Yes. The Mac version on Steam and the Mac App Store has the same full controller support as the PC version, and the game can remap the pad. If your controller does not show up in the game, this layout sends the keyboard and mouse instead.
Why is my controller not working in Blue Prince on a Mac?
First check the Mac itself sees the controller, with the gamepad tester. If it does and Blue Prince still ignores it, change the game's Steam Input override in its Steam Properties, and if that does not help, activate the Blue Prince layout in InputConfig, which sends the game's keyboard and mouse controls from the controller.
Can I play Blue Prince on an M1 Mac or a MacBook Air?
Blue Prince has a native Mac version, and its minimum requirements are listed on its Steam store page, so check your Mac against that list. I have not tested it on each Mac. The controller layout itself works the same on any Mac that runs InputConfig.
